EPP (expanded polypropylene)

EPP is selected for parts, which need to have high-energy absorption capability, light weight as well as a high thermal stability.
Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is a particle foam based on polypropylene. Different from EPS, EPP is delivered without a foaming agent, so that expansion with foaming agent afterwards is not possible.
EPP has many applications due to its multifaceted characteristics. It can be used as packaging material, as housing or to protect against shock loads, moreover, it is used as heat and sound insulation.

Advantages of the material:

  • low density (from approx. 20 g/l)
  • high temperature resistance (-40 to 130 °C)
  • reduced compression set
  • repeated load capacity
  • fully recyclable
  • structural strength
  • low water absorption
  • low tool costs
  • high specific energy absorption
